  • Cisco boosts lead in enterprise wireless LANs
    With the market set to explode in the next few years, Cisco Systems has ratcheted up its lead in selling Wi-Fi infrastructure to businesses. The company's share of revenue increased in the third quarter from under 62% to 63.4% as the global wireless LAN market grew 8% to $390.9 million. But No. 2 Aruba Networks slumped slightly to an 8% market share, according to the Dell'Oro Group. InformationWeek (11/29)
  • Sandvine puts search guide on product portfolio
    Canada's Sandvine has added a search guide to its lineup of products for providers of broadband services, after gaining the technology in its purchase of Simplicita Software in June.   • Time spent watching TV rising faster than that of Web
    Amid all the talk of television viewers flocking to the Web, a new report predicts time spent in front of the TV will rise faster than time devoted to the Internet through 2012. Consultancy Bain & Co. cited growth in video-on-demand, digital video recorders and telecoms' push into video as fueling the surge, saying it will take time for use of Internet video to catch on with TV viewers.   • Ofcom lets users switch networks in two hours
    U.K.'s Ofcom will allow consumers to switch their mobile network in a two-hour period, without changing their mobile number. "Consumers should feel like they own their phone number, that it is their property, so they can take advantage of the best deals in the market," an Ofcom representative said.   • EU: Let market decide mobile-TV standard
    European Union ministers rejected calls Thursday to set a Nokia-backed mobile-TV standard for the continent in asking the EU to maintain "technology neutrality" on the matter. The European Commission wanted the 27 EU nations to support the DVB-H standard in order to prevent the format wars that have plagued the DVD high-definition industry. But EU ministers said the Nokia technology should act as a "non-mandatory" standard. The Washington Post/Associated Press (11/29)
