    AT&T will encourage salespeople at its stores to tell customers they can use any brand of handset and software applications over the company's wireless networks. "You can use any handset on our network you want," said Ralph de la Vega, AT&T's wireless chief in reference to both the company's own policies and Google's efforts to develop an open operating system for cell phones.   • Opening network will pay off, Verizon COO says
    A top Verizon Communications executive told investors Wednesday that plans to open its wireless network will reduce costs and bring in cash from third parties who will need Verizon's spectrum for delivering services to their customers via any number of gadgets. Chief Operating Officer Denny Strigl said those providers would keep Verizon's costs down by bearing the marketing and customer-service expenses for those services.   • Nokia Siemens CEO sees U.S. inroads with 4G
    Bullish prospects for new Long Term Evolution technology in the U.S. will drive Nokia Siemens Networks' growth over the next few years, according to CEO Simon Beresford-Wylie. "LTE is coming onto the radar screen," he said in reference to the so-called fourth-generation technology that Beresford-Wylie said he believed would play a critical role in the growth of mobile-service applications.     BT Wholesale has contracted with Shareband to provide ISPs in the U.K. with bandwidth-bonding software designed to improve the reliability of ADSL service without requiring users to pay for a leased line.
