The Hindu (1/22) Verizon Wireless will brief developers on open network Verizon Wireless will hold a two-day conference for developers in March as preparation for its new open-network policy. The company will allow customers to use most third-party equipment over its network as well as any applications on those devices. The Hollywood Reporter (1/23) South Korean portal service joins rush to IPTV Popular South Korean Web-portal operator Daum Communications will join the IPTV parade in a deal with Microsoft and Korean set-box maker Celrun in which the company will provide content and operational support. Recent relaxation of IPTV rules has heated up competition as telecom companies have jockeyed to enter the field in South Korea. The operator expects energy-efficient phones to make up 90% of its fixed-line lineup by July. Computer Business Review (U.K.) (1/2008) Cisco says new products will speed apps Cisco Systems has introduced a series of products that it says will accelerate delivery of applications over its networks and improve their efficiency. Among the hardware rollouts are products for small to midsize businesses that reduce cooling costs, a mobile-software package that speeds up application delivery across wide area networks, and a profiling service that keeps users informed on technology performance and how it can be improved. Techworld/Computerworld (1/23) EMC targets businesses with new Mozy unit EMC will seek to expand the market for its new MozyEnterprise division from just consumer and small-business users to large businesses, the company said Tuesday, adding that it will sell Mozy with its EMC Fortress data-storage platform as part of its software-as-a-service strategy.
