    Verizon Wireless said it would take whatever steps were needed to protect the privacy of customers' cell phone numbers in response to concerns about Intelius, a data broker that has operated a cell phone directory site since August. Intelius charges $15 for obtaining information about cell phone users; and while Verizon said it would aggressively pursue the matter, the company was unsure if it could bring a legal case against Intelius.   • Emerging markets fuel growth at Vodafone
    Vodafone reported 16% revenue growth in the latest quarter, and it said that for the first time, its number of customers in emerging countries surpassed those in mature markets. New acquisitions in India and Turkey helped fuel the strong sales figures, and CEO Arun Sarin said Vodafone remained interested in "certain assets" in Asia and Africa.   • McDowell: Timetable uncertain for broadcast spectrum devices
    It may be possible in the future for unlicensed mobile devices to operate in the broadcast spectrum without disrupting broadcasters, according to FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell; however, McDowell said he does not think there should be a definitive date for allowing such uses, suggesting that the time line should be contingent on the development of technologies that are proven to eliminate interference issues.
