The critical questions for companies in deployment are whether their networks can accommodate the heavier traffic and how any transfer lag might affect their business at a critical time, said Verizon Business' Robert Le Busque, the company's director of collaborations solutions in the region. The group argued that a package of benefits targeted at the broadband industry would inject almost as much money into the economy as the stimulus measures Congress recently enacted. The report also estimated U.S. ad revenue will increase during that period from $762 million to $2.3 billion, with the U.K. set to record a jump from $45.6 million to $160.8 million. The Hollywood Reporter (2/21) CBS to roll out classic shows on Audience Network CBS announced Thursday that it would stream ad-supported full episodes of several classic TV shows, including "Star Trek" and "The Twilight Zone," on the Web for free. The programs will be distributed across the CBS Audience Network, which includes more than 300 partners, such as AOL, Microsoft, CNET Networks and Comcast. The Hollywood Reporter (2/22) Time Warner Cable renews carriage deal for Hallmark Channel Time Warner Cable and Crown Media Holdings have signed a multiyear contract that renews carriage of the Hallmark Channel and still gives Crown Media the ability to sell its Hallmark Movie Channel to individual outlets. The deal follows similar Crown Media carriage pacts with EchoStar and Comcast and leaves just DirecTV with which to negotiate. Telephony Online (2/21) Search engines must follow EU data-protection rules The European Union's group of data-privacy regulators issued a directive Thursday requiring non-European Web-search companies to adhere to EU guidelines on storing consumers' online data.
