  • Broadband sales spur Citizens to top estimates
    Citizens Communications topped analysts predictions on net income in the fourth quarter as it made strong gains in its data service. The company added about 22,400 subscribers to its high-speed Internet service in the quarter, compared with 19,695 a year ago, as broadband data penetration rose from 30% in the third quarter to 32%, said the rural telecoms outfit, which does business under the Frontier banner.     Robert W. Pullen, who joined Tellabs in 1985 as an electrical engineer, will become the company's CEO and president on March 1 following the decision by current CEO Krish Prabhu to resign.     Sunrise Telecom is deploying an integrated platform to provide end-to-end testing of its triple-play bundle of services, a sign that telecom companies are increasingly preferring to deal with a single vendor to monitor voice, video and data equipment.   • Terabit Ethernet coming, but it's not clear when
    Ethernet networks that support terabit-per-second speeds could be here by 2015, according to the man said to have invented Ethernet -- but then again it may not be. Polaris Ventures partner Bob Metcalfe said that there were no clear indications on what network architectures will be needed to enable terabit Ethernet networks, adding that their deployment will depend on carriers' making fundamental changes in the building blocks of optical networks.
