  • Mobile fuels France Telecom
France Telecom, whose Orange division is the sole French distributor of Apple's iPhone, reported a 52% net profit last year, due largely to strong results in its mobile phone unit. The company did not break out sales by division but said solid growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa -- along with strong holiday sales for the iPhone -- was a major driver of revenue for the company. • "C" block draws no new bidders
Bids have stalled for the "C" block spectrum at $4.74 billion, according to the FCC, which had set a $4.6 billion benchmark for the creation of a broadband network open to any device or application. Now that an open network is assured, some analysts are speculating Google will not be the one to fork over billions for the spectrum, although others believe the search giant still is in the running. Comcast also announced that it would serve up Showtime's "The Tudors" on VOD before the program's second-season premiere March 30. Multichannel News (2/4)

We are now finally down to the level where this is affordable," Intel executive Andrew Allison said. Financial Times (subscription required) (2/5)
