| Cisco and iSkoot To Integrate VoIP To Wireline Networks Posted: 17 Feb 2008 07:13 AM CST Cisco and iSkoot has integrated VoIP features in the networks of several international mobile phone operators. This information is based on reports made by Mobile software from iSkoot that it has achieved carrier-class interoperability with with Cisco. According to iSkoot, "iSkoot's software has been integrated and successfully tested with the Cisco AS5000 Series Universal Gateway and the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch to carry out signalling and call-control operations interconnecting advanced IP networks to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The company's software lets users view their buddy lists, make and receive Internet calls, and enjoy instant messaging using nearly any mobile handset." It was Jacob Guedalia, iSkoot's chief operations officer that declared this at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This was his statement, "As a result of our successful interoperability testing, iSkoot's mobile solution is now commercially deployed by mobile operators around the globe." In a statement with regards to the integrated product, the Director of mobility marketing for Cisco, Jon Hindle, said, "As the Internet increasingly becomes the foundation for all mobile communications, the Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network architecture provides the scalability, openness, and reliability that service providers need to deploy innovative applications such as iSkoot and deliver new profitable services to their subscribers." | Two hours of free calling and lots of other features in the New VoIP-powered ooVoo 1.5 Posted: 17 Feb 2008 07:13 AM CST
There is now a new free downloadable version of VoIP, known as VoIP-powered ooVoo 1.5. It also allows the making of calls to landline and mobile phones. Well, I took some time to look at the features included in the new edition. Off course, there were bound to be some similarities, differences and what have you. First of all, I discovered nothing much had changed on the interface. The only noticeable difference was a tab that was introduced on the main client. The tab is for making calls to regular phones. Also included is a scroll down menu, which allows you to select the country you might want to call. You also find this in Skype. The only difference here is that you can only call people in the United States and Canada for now. I also took some time to test ooVoo 1.5. I discovered that on mobile, the call quality is almost the same as Skype. It has the ability to record just about any conversation. Within the call window is an inbuilt record button. In a situation that requires recording a call with another ooVoo user, it will prompt them with a permission window that will ask if they agree to be recorded. There is yet no permission feature for recording mobile or landline phone calls. The only set back I know for now is that it usually takes sometime before you can get through calls. If you think that is all, just wait for this bit of information. Do you know that from now till the first of March you can make outbound calls free of charge for two hours to any landline or mobile phone in the U.S. and Canada, anywhere you are in the world? You can only get this opportunity by just downloading the new oovoo 1.5. Well, its time to set the ball rolling. |
