    SureWest Communications has introduced Digital Phone, a VoIP service, and a high-definition digital video recorder to its IP-based service in the Sacramento, Calif., region. The company termed the voice service as a competitively priced product it will add to its premium broadband package and said a three-month test of its DVR exceeded expectations.   • Verizon CFO sees solid 2008
    Amid growing concerns over the slowing economy's impact on telecom stocks, Verizon Communications' chief financial officer reassured an investors conference on Monday that the company would duplicate its strong performance of a year ago, but might suffer a "relatively insignificant" amount in its wireless unit. Otherwise, CFO Doreen Toben said, Verizon's new unlimited $100 price package had shown promising results, "with many customers willing to move up on price."     On Wednesday, Hulu.com, the online video network developed jointly by NBC Universal and Fox, will go live, offering viewers access to ad-supported programming including movies, TV shows, professional sports highlights and archived college basketball games. The site is experimenting with how best to integrate advertising into online video, and will offer users the ability to choose from among various ads as well as the option of viewing a long-form ad in advance of a program, which will then be shown without commercial interruption.     The number of viewers who watch full-length episodes of popular TV shows streamed on the Web is on the rise, with Nielsen Media Research reporting that, over a three-month span, 25% of Web users streamed a TV episode. "It has become a mainstream behavior in an extraordinarily quick time," said Alan Wurtzel, the head of research for NBC. "It isn't just the province of college students or generation Y-ers.
