  • Level 3 sees growth ahead
    Level 3 Communications said Wednesday that the company had been working successfully to unclog the bottlenecks that plagued its service-activation processes last year and was expanding its sales staff to prevent the problem from happening again. "We now have sufficient installation capacity to increase sales to match the demonstrated demand for our services." said CEO James Crowe.   • Motorola's market share for handsets falls to 9.5%
     
    Motorola executives blamed continuing gaps in the mobile-handset division's product lineup for many of its woes as the company's losses widened in the first quarter and its global market share for handsets fell to 9.5%, compared with 17.5% a year earlier. Sales of mobile handsets slipped 40% to 27.4 million during the quarter. CEO Greg Brown said the company would release a broader portfolio of phones as Motorola prepared to split its mobile-handset unit into a separate company.   • AT&T expands U-verse in Wis., details La. plans
    AT&T has broadened access to its U-verse TV and Internet service in southeastern Wisconsin, saying it now passes 200,000 homes in the Milwaukee, Racine and Sheboygan areas more than a year after it introduced U-verse in the state. The company also detailed its plans to pump $400 million into Louisiana over the next few years to expand its fiber network even as state lawmakers consider legislation that could give AT&T a statewide video franchise.
