  • AT&T courts streaming customers
    AT&T is courting businesses of all sizes for its recent expansion into the streaming Content Delivery Network area, in part by highlighting satisfied customers such as Forbes.com, which provides 2,500 video stories a day from its three video centers. "For us, improved speed equals improved response time for site users, which then correlates to an increase in visitors but also means page-view stickiness due to ease of use," said Michael Smith, vice president and general manager of operations for Forbes.com.     Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse says the company has made strides in overcoming its operational and financial problems, telling an interviewer that Sprint was "in the third inning" of its overhaul.   • AT&T opens 17,000 hotspots to 3G wireless subs
    AT&T will allow its 3G data-service customers to access the Internet free via its Wi-Fi network at its 17,000 U.S. hotspots, the company announced Tuesday. It opened the offer to Laptop Connect subscribers, who pay at least $60 a month for data over its HSDPA and EDGE networks. CNET (5/20)

  • Chip maker: Euro carriers may be shut out of mobile TV
    European mobile carriers could potentially be cut out of the mobile-TV market because of the development of cell phones that tap into network-TV broadcasts, said the head of DiBcom, a French chip maker of mobile-TV devices. On Tuesday, CEO Yannick Levy pointed to LG Electronics' recent introduction of such a phone in Germany in saying, "We think this is going to be a trend in Europe.
