  • Studios want bigger role in delivering new releases to TV
    Hollywood studios are looking to deliver theatrical movies in HD to homes much earlier than their release on DVD -- but they are also looking for greater copy-protection control. The studios want the FCC to block signals from traveling over certain plugs connected to TVs and video recorders -- until the movies are released on DVD, but some groups assert that such a move would give studios power over choosing which digital connections they would use, thus cutting off products without those connections.   • Verizon adding 60+ channels to FiOS lineup
    Verizon Communications is bulking up its offerings by adding more than 60 channels, including 25 high-definition channels, to its lineup for FiOS TV this summer. "We are aggressively acquiring high-quality programming in both standard and high definition that appeals to a broad array of viewers," said Terry Denson, Verizon's vice president of content and programming. By the end of 2008, Verizon is aiming to offer 150 HD channels. ipTVnews (6/11)
