"The only way out of it, in our view, is for them to materially improve the subscriber experience so the subscriber is willing to pay for it. The Swedish army says it believes TeliaSonera AB can go private without jeopardizing the country's telecom infrastructure. "The Swedish armed forces believe that a change in ownership of TeliaSonera AB is possible from a security point of view -- provided that necessary measures are taken to ensure the security of the Swedish armed forces and other authorities," a Swedish armed forces report said, which may help make it easier for France Telecom to acquire TeliaSonera. The Ambani brothers, who control India's Reliance Communications and Reliance Industries, are feuding over whether Mukesh Ambani has the right to veto a merger between Reliance Communications and South Africa's MTN. Mukesh, the owner of Reliance Industries, is threatening to sue MTN and Reliance Communications -- spun out of an earlier iteration of Reliance Industries and run by his younger brother, Anil -- if the deal proceeds over Mukesh's objections. Sony is producing a $1 million show, "Angel of Death" for the Internet, but in an attempt to give economic viability to Web-based original content, will take steps to make it attractive to fans via DVD and other media. Scheduled to debut in early 2009, Sony will release 10 eight-minute episodes online after which it will produce a DVD with new content that ties them together like a movie. A new system from Boston-based Backchannel Media allows TV stations to air content with an interactive component, allowing viewers to essentially bookmark ads using their remote control.
