  • NSN: Competition still fierce in network-gear market
    Nokia Siemens Networks has acknowledged that the competition for contracts in the telecom-network-gear space is tight, but it said the company was still working to improve profit margins. "It's still an extremely competitive market, and vendors are not making huge profits," said Christian Fredrikson, head of Nokia Siemens Networks Asia Pacific.     Dick Green, the chief executive officer of CableLabs, says that the tru2way interactive TV specifications are based on an open Java platform and can be used by any multichannel provider ... even telecoms.     More than half of adults say they rely on text messaging, blogging and social networks to stay in touch with others regularly, according to the latest tracking study from Interpublic's Universal McCann unit. As part of UM's "Media in Mind" study, the new tracker finds that 85% of those in the key 18-to-34 age group rely on at least one of these platforms to communicate with friends, family and colleagues.
