  • Technology can cut emissions by 15%, study suggests
New research from the Climate Group says computers and telecom technology could help cut CO2 emissions by as much as 15% and save some $1 trillion in electricity and fuel consumption. The group says using technology to better manage the power grid would produce the most savings, followed by traffic monitoring and freight scheduling, improved building design, and computer-assisted manufacturing. "These are not easy wins: There are policy, market and behavioral hurdles that need to be overcome to deliver the savings possible," the report noted. Bloomberg (6/20)
  • Analysis: Business will ponder WiMAX or LTE
WiMAX is gaining momentum, but the technology is unlikely to have an impact on the business sector this year. "When enterprises start thinking about investing in 4G services, they'll have to be thinking about whether it will make more sense to wait for LTE," said Forrester analyst Chris Silva. "In the end, WiMax's success may come down to its price value in comparison to LTE." InfoWorld/Network World (6/24)
