    Verizon Communications is offering customers a $10 monthly credit for 12 months if they order the telecom's $74.99-a-month FiOS video-and-phone bundle online. The video-package promotion gives subscribers access to 90 days of free Starz and Showtime, as well as four on-demand movies that cost $5 or less each. xchange (7/11)

  • Battle for Yahoo! heats up
    Over the weekend, Yahoo! rejected a joint offer from Microsoft and investor Carl Icahn that would have given Microsoft control over Yahoo!'s search business and led to the ouster of Yahoo! Chief Executive Officer Jerry Yang and the company's board. Yahoo! reportedly agreed to be acquired at the $33-per-share price previously offered by Microsoft, but that was rejected.   • NTT DoCoMo looks for partners outside Japan
    Japan's top wireless carrier has signaled a desire to find more joint ventures abroad, especially in Asia, in order to lessen its reliance on its home market. "We want to be able to move swiftly when the timing is good. What we always say is to prioritize Asia-Pacific followed by the Middle East and then Africa," said Ryuji Yamada, CEO of NTT DoCoMo.
