  • Book it: Amazon gets into the TV biz
    Amazon.com today is expected to debut an online video-on-demand service with about 40,000 streaming movies and TV programs, The New York Times reports. "For the first time, this is drop dead simple," said Amazon's Bill Carr, the company's vice president for digital media. "Our goal is to create an immersive experience where people can't help but get caught up in how exciting it is to simply watch a movie right from Amazon.com with a click of the button."   • TiVo brings YouTube to some DVRs
    TiVo today is expected to announce that some of its users -- those with the Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs -- will be able to view YouTube videos on their home TV sets. Only a small number of TiVo's 3.8 million subscribers have those models, but the company hopes that the new feature will attract additional customers. The Washington Post/Reuters (7/17)
