  • With IP traffic soaring, tenants "can't do without" being connected
Projections from Cisco Systems predict 400% growth in IP traffic from 2006 to 2011, and "fiber-optic and wireless technologies are the solution" for handling that growth, according to a company official. As traffic increases, the price of installation is coming down: An all-optic network in an office building costs just $1 to $1.25 per square foot, compared with $20 a square foot for utilities such as water, gas and electric. • Analysts ponder economy and telecom
With AT&T set to report earnings Wednesday, analysts are waiting to see what effect the economy is having on the telecom sector as consumers look to shore up their expenses. AT&T warned in January that it expected the economy would hurt its wireline and Internet broadband units, but some analysts are upbeat about the telecom company's prospects for the third quarter, when revenue from sales of the new iPhone will kick into the earnings picture. • Icahn, Yahoo! come to terms
Activist investor Carl Icahn will take a seat on Yahoo!'s board of directors after the two parties reached a deal that will, according to The Wall Street Journal, help return some stability to Yahoo! "While I continue to believe that the sale of the whole company or the sale of its Search business in the right transaction must be given full consideration, I share the view that Yahoo's valuable collection of assets positions it well to continue expanding its online leadership and enhancing returns to stockholders," said Icahn after the truce was called.
