    Windstream is not shying away from a potential merger, according to the telecom, which sees consolidation in the telecom space as an integral part of its strategy. "The industry saw a good bit of consolidation over the last couple of years," Chief Executive Officer Jeff Gardner said. "We hope that we'll have more opportunities going forward."     The Houston area is looking to implement Next Generation 911, an upgrade that will allow people to use text messages in emergencies and to send photos of criminals or an accident scene.   • Study: Wireless broadband set to explode, though WiMAX will lag
    A new study from Analysys Mason predicts a 2,400% growth rate for wireless broadband by 2015, reaching 2.1 billion customers and $784 billion in revenue. But Alastair Brydon, the report's co-author, says the "vast majority" of mobile-network operators will opt for LTE over WiMAX, leaving the latter technology with just 98 million customers by 2015.
