  • Qatar Telecom vows buying spree will continue
    Having set a goal of becoming one of the top 20 global carriers by 2020, Qatar Telecom's chairman said the company would maintain a shopping frenzy that had more than quadrupled its market cap to $18 billion since early 2005. Sheikh Abdulla bin Muhammad bin Saud Al Thani, hot off QTel's $1.8 billion purchase of a controlling stake in Indonesia's Indosat, vowed not to overbid for properties and to stay focused on the QTel's core areas of GSM carriers, WiMAX and serving enterprise customers.   • Nick signs DVD-on-demand deal with Amazon
    In a first for a Viacom-owned basic-cable network, Nickelodeon has signed a deal with Amazon.com that will allow the online retailer to duplicate and deliver a large selection of the network's content through a DVD-on-demand platform. The agreement, announced Monday, includes hits such as "Drake & Josh," "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" and "Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius." Broadcasting & Cable (8/25)
