Frontier Communications added more than 16,000 broadband customers during the second quarter of the year, a 17% improvement over the comparable period a year earlier. The company says it believes its gains can be attributed to its ability to segment the market. Telephony Online (8/5) - Sprint Nextel continues to lose customers: Sprint Nextel lost 901,000 subscribers in the second quarter and expects customer numbers to continue to dwindle in the current quarter, leading some analysts to question the company's turnaround efforts. "When they're already down that much, that's problematic," said Walter Piecyk, an analyst at Pali Research. "At some point, you have to go out and attract new customers and they're not doing that." ZeeVee is now shipping its ZvBox, which allows users to stream media content from a PC to multiple HDTVs. The ZvBox "localcasts" the content on a channel called Zv to all the HDTVs in the home, with no subscription required. Google has no plans to ally its Android mobile platform with a similar open-source venture even though 21 mobile devices now run on rival LiMo's operating system, the company said Tuesday.
