Cinergy MetroNet is offering the service to its triple-play customers free of charge, as well as those who subscribe to its video and voice services at a rate of $2.95 per month.   • Verizon, AT&T embrace social nets
    Verizon Wireless and AT&T have introduced their own versions of a social-networking application for mobiles. Verizon will charge $1.49 a month for its "SocialLife" service, and AT&T's "My Communities" will cost $2.99. Both are powered by Intercasting's Anthem platform.   • AOL.com redesign offers more of the Web
    AOL is the fourth-most-visited U.S. Web site, according to comScore Media Metrix data, with 111.4 million unique visitors in July, but that number is down slightly on a year-over-year basis. The portal is trying to reconnect with users after its switch to a free, ad-supported model by offering users more links to the wider Web, rather than focusing on AOL content.
