  • BT to give FTTC, VDSL a try
    BT Group will test the waters on fiber-to-the-curb and VDSL technologies in an attempt to gauge interest in the platforms, according to Steve Robertson, the chief executive officer of BT subsidiary Openreach. The trial will involve about 15,000 homes and is meant to determine whether a strong enough economic case can be made to forge ahead with the cutting-edge offerings. Light Reading (9/10)

    Alcatel-Lucent hopes to gain a chunk of the increasingly popular market for location-based services with a new platform that the company said would trim capacity demand on wireless networks and reduce handsets' battery drain.     AT&T has certified Qualcomm's Gobi mobile Web technology, and the companies tapped selected notebooks from Panasonic and Hewlett-Packard for access to the broadband network, AT&T and Qualcomm said Wednesday.
