  • NebuAd chief steps down
    Robert Dykes has stepped down as CEO of ad-tracking firm NebuAd to take the chief financial officer post at VeriFone Holdings. Dykes will be replaced by the company's current president, Kira Makagon, who will be charged with shepherding the company as it looks to target "more conventional media channels."   • Unable to buy rivals, Broadweave to compete on own net
    Broadweave Networks, which last week completed its purchase of the municipal fiber network of Provo, Utah, will have to compete with a pair of service providers over that same link after having abandoned efforts to buy their customers. The company said it decided that it was more profitable to compete against the holdouts rather than acquire their base. Telephony Online (9/2)
  • Motorola handset chief faces critical staffing issues
    Layoffs and departures of key employees remain a key challenge for Motorola as it tries to revive its Mobile Devices unit under new leader Sanjay Jha, according to one report. Jha has said he plans to recruit from outside Motorola to replenish its executive ranks, but many former employees are now working for the competition.   • Study: Broadband-related services brought in $26 billion in 2007
    Value-added services such as VoIP, security, online gaming, music downloads and video over broadband added up to almost $26 billion in revenue in 2007 for telecom companies and their suppliers, a 62% increase compared with 2006, according to a new study from Point Topic. John Bosnell, a senior analyst at Point Topic, called VoIP "the success story of 2007" and predicted it would continue to track upward in the future. xchange (9/2)
  • Entone readies new CPE for IPTV
    IPTV technology company Entone will introduce customer-premise equipment later this month that enables an HD stream and second standard stream to be decoded simultaneously, the company said. The Janus IP Video Gateway distributes the signals along existing coax and can link to fiber-to-the-home and DSL networks via Ethernet, power line or 802.11n technologies. ipTVnews (9/2)
